When 15-year-old ballerina Amelia Longwood starts having visions of her past lives, her fear of being locked up in an asylum seems all too possible. And that’s not the worst thing: her alcoholic mother wants to force her to stop dancing, her best friend is feeling betrayed, and the boy she likes wants more than she wants to give. Meanwhile, she’s experiencing nightly visits to her life between lives. In the guise of her old self—as Marta, a Swiss dairy farmer’s wife—she prepares for her life as Amelia in celestial realms that are breathtakingly beautiful, challenging, and scary. Before Amelia can live as the ballet dancer she aspires to become, she’ll have to confront old injuries and sort out her friends, lovers, and enemies from both past and present lifetimes.
